Hole in the Wall

A sand chute that funnels you down through a chimney in the reef and out onto a deep wall — a classic, slightly deeper Roatán dive with a real sense of adventure.

Depth
18–40 m (59–131 ft)
Difficulty
advanced
Suitable for
Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and deep-comfortable divers
Getting there
Boat ride from the shop

What you'll see

  • Eagle rays
  • Black coral
  • Deep-water gorgonians
  • Reef sharks (occasional)

Hole in the Wall starts on the reef top, where a sand chute pours over the edge and channels you down through a chimney in the wall, popping you out along a deep drop-off. It's a dive about terrain and depth — the deeper light, the black coral, and the chance of eagle rays cruising the blue.

Because it takes you below recreational comfort for newer divers, we run it for Advanced Open Water divers (or equivalent) who are comfortable with deeper profiles. Want to dive sites like this with confidence? Our Advanced course is the way in.

We plan it as the deeper dive of the day, watch no-stop time closely on your computer, and brief the chimney carefully so you drop through relaxed and in control. Nitrox is a great option here to extend your bottom time — just ask when you book.
