What does 'environmentally sealed' mean, and do I need it?
An environmental seal keeps water, salt and grit out of the first stage's main spring chamber. It improves cold-water reliability (much less risk of a free-flow from freezing), protects the internals in silty or dirty water, and slightly boosts performance at depth. For warm Caribbean diving it's optional — but many divers add it for longevity and resale value. The Monterey can be sealed now or later via a swap kit.
DIN or Yoke — which should I choose?
Yoke (INT) clamps over the tank valve and is the most common rental and fill fitting in warm-water destinations — perfectly fine for recreational diving. DIN screws directly into the valve, is rated to higher pressure, and is preferred for technical diving and travel to DIN regions. You can convert between them with a kit, or carry a DIN-to-Yoke adapter when you travel.
What are the Monterey's modular upgrades?
The Monterey is built to grow with you. You can add a 5th low-pressure port for more hose-routing options (great for sidemount), add an environmental seal, or fit a pneumatically balanced turret — all via swap kits, without buying a new regulator.
